How to Make a Business Website in Nepal in 2026 (Beginner's Guide)

A complete beginner's guide to building a business website in Nepal — choosing a domain, hosting, and platform, adding SSL and local payments, and getting found on Google, with realistic NPR costs.

BabalCloud TeamJuly 22, 20267 min read

If your business in Nepal doesn't have a website yet, you're handing customers to competitors who do. The good news: building a professional business website has never been cheaper or easier, and you don't need to be a developer to do it. This guide takes you from zero to a live website — domain, hosting, design, security, and payments — with realistic Nepali pricing at every step.

By the end you'll know exactly what to buy, in what order, and roughly what it costs. Most small businesses can be online in one to three days for NPR 2,000–5,000 a year.

This is the starting-point guide for our whole website series. Each section links to a deeper walkthrough when you need it.

The 5 things every website needs

Before spending a rupee, understand the pieces. A live website is just five things working together:

  1. A domain name — your web address (e.g. yourbusiness.com.np).
  2. Hosting — the server that stores your website's files and serves them to visitors.
  3. A platform — the software you build the site with (WordPress is the most common).
  4. An SSL certificate — the padlock that makes your site secure (https://).
  5. Content — your pages, text, and images.

Domain and hosting are the two you pay for; the rest can often be free. Let's go through them in order.

Step 1 — Choose and register your domain

Your domain is your address. For a Nepali business you have two main options:

  • .com.np — free, locally trusted, ideal if your customers are in Nepal. It requires ID/registration documents and takes about two working days to approve.
  • .com — paid (roughly NPR 1,500–2,000/year), instant, and best if you want an international feel.

If you want the free local option, follow our step-by-step guide to registering a free .com.np domain. If you'd rather register a .com (or both) in one place alongside your hosting, you can do that on our domain registration page.

Tip: keep your domain short, easy to spell, and tied to your business name. Avoid hyphens and numbers where you can.

Step 2 — Choose your hosting

Hosting is where your website actually lives. For 90% of Nepali business websites, shared hosting is more than enough — it's affordable, managed for you, and comes with a control panel (cPanel) to handle everything.

When comparing hosts, look for:

  • NVMe SSD storage and LiteSpeed — these make your site noticeably faster.
  • Free SSL — so you don't pay extra for security.
  • Daily backups — so a mistake or hack doesn't wipe you out.
  • cPanel — the standard, beginner-friendly control panel.
  • Local support and payment — a Nepali provider you can reach, that accepts eSewa/Khalti/Fonepay.

BabalCloud's hosting plans include all of the above — NVMe storage, LiteSpeed, free SSL, and daily backups — starting from NPR 2,000/year, with local support and payment methods.

Step 3 — Pick a platform to build your site

You don't code a website from scratch. You use a platform:

  • WordPress — the most popular choice worldwide and in Nepal. Free, flexible, thousands of themes, and installable in one click from cPanel. Best for most businesses.
  • Website builders (Wix, Squarespace) — drag-and-drop and beginner-friendly, but you're locked into their platform and monthly fees.
  • Custom-coded (React, Laravel, etc.) — for developers or when you need something specific. If you go this route, see our developer deployment guides.

For most small businesses, WordPress on shared hosting is the sweet spot: cheap, powerful, and something any web professional in Nepal can help you with later.

Installing WordPress

From your hosting cPanel, open the one-click installer (Softaculous or similar), choose WordPress, pick your domain, and install. In a few minutes you'll have a working site to log in to and customize. Pick a theme, add your pages (Home, About, Services, Contact), and you're building.

Step 4 — Secure your site with SSL

An SSL certificate encrypts data between your visitors and your site and shows the padlock in the browser. It's essential — Google flags sites without it as "Not Secure," and customers won't trust a store without https://.

Good hosts include free SSL (via Let's Encrypt) that you enable with one click in cPanel. Never pay separately for a basic SSL certificate on a small business site — it should come with your hosting. We cover this in depth in our upcoming website security guide.

Step 5 — Add local payments (if you sell online)

If you're taking payments, Nepali customers expect local options: eSewa, Khalti, and Fonepay, plus cash on delivery. WordPress with WooCommerce supports all of these through plugins, and custom apps can integrate them directly.

Offering local payment methods measurably increases conversions in Nepal — many customers simply won't complete a purchase that only accepts international cards.

Step 6 — Get found on Google

A website nobody can find isn't doing its job. The basics of getting indexed:

  • Submit your site to Google Search Console and add your sitemap.
  • Write clear page titles and descriptions for every page.
  • Make sure your site is mobile-friendly and fast — Google ranks slow sites lower.
  • Create a Google Business Profile so you show up in local "near me" searches and on Maps.

These fundamentals matter as much as the website itself. We'll publish dedicated SEO guides in this series.

What it all costs (realistic 2026 pricing)

Here's an honest breakdown for a typical small business website in Nepal:

ItemCost (NPR/year)
Domain (.com.np)Free
Domain (.com, optional)1,500 – 2,000
Shared hosting2,000 – 5,000
WordPress + themeFree (premium themes optional)
SSL certificateFree (included in hosting)
Total to get online~2,000 – 5,000/year

If you hire a designer or agency to build it for you, add a one-time design cost. But a determined beginner can absolutely launch a clean, professional site themselves for the cost of hosting alone.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost in Nepal?

For a self-built small business website, expect NPR 2,000–5,000 per year, mostly for hosting (the .com.np domain is free). Hiring a designer adds a one-time build cost on top.

Do I need to know coding to make a website?

No. With WordPress installed from cPanel, you can build a complete business website using themes and a visual editor without writing any code.

How long does it take to build a business website?

A basic professional website can be live in one to three days — most of that is writing your content and choosing a design, not the technical setup.

Can I make a website for free in Nepal?

You can get a free .com.np domain and use free WordPress, but you'll still need paid hosting (from ~NPR 2,000/year) for a real business site. Fully free options exist but come with ads and limits unsuitable for a serious business.

Which is better for a Nepali business: WordPress or a website builder?

WordPress is usually the better long-term choice — it's cheaper, more flexible, not locked to one company, and any Nepali web professional can support it.

Your next steps

Getting online is really just three purchases and a bit of setup: a domain, hosting, and a platform. Start with the domain, add hosting, install WordPress, and build from there.

When you're ready, BabalCloud's hosting plans give you everything in this guide — NVMe storage, free SSL, daily backups, one-click WordPress, and local Nepali support and payments — from NPR 2,000/year. And if you register a free .com.np domain first, your total cost to get a professional site online is about as low as it gets.
